Hinsdale Police Searching Paddle Bags at KLM? (Update 3)

It has been reported that on Sunday, January 7, a Hinsdale Police officer entered the paddle hut at KLM while 16 players were on the court. After opening the oversized white cooler and finding it empty, he proceded to prod around inside two paddle bags -- apparently looking for a racquet to join in on the fun.

The next day, after one of the witnesses reported this event to another deputy, the bag's owner was told that the patrol officer denied conducting any search.

"
The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized."

Village of Hinsdale Police Investigate the Threat of Platform Tennis in Our Community

The demands on the fine men and women of the Hinsdale Police force continue to grow. As reported by The Doings late in 2006, members of Hinsdale's finest are now routinely working overtime and taking their paperwork home to complete in off hours. These mounting pressures on resources demand that our Village commit to "Its Way Forward (tm)" and solve the problem of platform tennis.

Last night, one of these fine and dedicated village employees devoted extra time to concerns about platform tennis. Two driveby visits were conducted at 7 PM and 8 PM. The officer observed nearly 30 men playing and several eating pepperoni pizza. The uniformed officer also visited the paddle hut on foot and provided a civics lesson to all present. (Note: Being on the court at the time, this blogger is unclear whether pizza samples were then taken back to the crime lab at Police HQ).

The uniformed officer cheerily explained that paddle players, including a dozen people present who just started this season, had brought this police pressure upon themselves. The facility is too close to residents and the elderly. The arrogance of building the courts in a public park has created a need for continuing attention by armed men.

Marty 'n Martin Reach Semis in Cincy

Hinsdale teams scored big at the Midwestern Tourney in Cincinnati over the weekend.

Marty Engel and Wade Martin reached the semi-finals before losing to 2nd seeds Blake Cordish and David Caldwell (nationally ranked as 5th). Wade and Marty were so tired after three matches on Saturday that they went to bed early rather than attending a rave where Lindsay Lohan was rumored to be mixing it up.

Sportscenter's Rece Davis reports that
former Hinsdalean Andy Todd teamed with brother Michael and had the misfortune to run into James Goldman and Charlie Usher in the draw. The trash talk between James and Andy was ongoing, loud, and obnoxious. It only concluded when Andy crushed a forehand, hitting James in the nose and bringing immediate blood to the game. James wanted to continue immediately but the others did not want to play while James was bleeding.

When asked if there was a doctor available, opponent Dr. Michael Todd was silent. The only redemption for James was a 3-set victory over the Todd's. Goldman and Usher finished 9th. The Men of the Square Table are considering a censure of Michael Todd for violations of Paddle Man Law and the Hippocratic Oath.

Posh Spice Considering Second Career

While hubby David is busy traveling the country, Posh Spice intends to take her brood -- Brooklyn, Romeo, and Cruz -- to Venice Beach for some sun and fun.

As you've no doubt already heard, the Beckhams are shopping for a home in nearby Beverly Hills. The talk all over Hollywood, though, is that Victoria is planning a second career as a pro paddle player. Of course, the Beckham's publicist denied the story -- carried by both British and American tabloids -- but offered no explanation for how Victoria came to own a hat sold exclusively by the country's top female paddle teacher.

Draft All Three of the Schultz Brothers

Long-lost brothers Hans and Dwight left thriving Hollywood careers and caught up to their dear brother Bob Schultz on the paddle courts at KLM. Where else?

In a surprise, the trio of Schultz brothers announced their intentions to run as a slate for the Hinsdale Village Board. These men bring elite records of military service, as well as strong references from Colonel Klink and Colonel "Hannibal" Smith. They are running as citizen legislators. Hans and Bob said "They know nothin.", while younger brother Dwight has advocated that Hinsdale reform its village board by passing a lifetime limit of one term for any elected official.
