Recap of the Season for the Women's Traveling Teams

The Hinsdale women's paddle teams continued their winning ways with a stellar second half of the season. The Series 10 team dominated the league with an 8-0 record. Kathleen Mulligan, Georgia Harrison, Adrienne Renwick, Susan Real, and Julie Laux were all undefeated. The team will move up to Series 9 next fall.

The Series 8 team is also moving up. With a record of 8-1, the team finished in second place behind Five Seasons. MaryBeth Daly and Nancy Wingren were both undefeated.

The Series 4 team will move up to Series 3 next season. They won the league with an 8-1 record. Susie Mullaney won every match in straight sets. The season was clinched in their final match against Skokie with courts 3 and 4 winning 7-6 in the 3rd set. So mentally tough!

Finally, the Series 1 team repeated their league victory in the second half of the season. The team was 8-0-1 with Holly Tritt and Patty Doolas going undefeated. It is unknown whether another tacky trophy will appear in the KLM hut.

HPD 1 - Series V

It'd be tough to say which of
Hinsdale's 14 men's traveling teams had the most fun, but Ed Dunphy's team in the Vs would certainly be a contender. Their 9-7-2 record is more impressive when you consider that the Vs gave up a few players during the season.

Hinsdale 2008 Mixed

The mixed tournament on Friday night turned out to be a perfect winter night in Hinsdale. Kim Mercurio and Susie Mullaney arranged a bountiful spread of food and desserts.

The cold wind made March feel like the depths of winter until matches got well under way.

Early round matches were played at Burns Field, Hinsdale Golf Club, and KLM. By the semi-finals, everyone was back at KLM.

Stephanie and Van Stapleton edged out Pam and Paul Garvin to reach the semis. In that round, Van wasn't slowing down at all, but Mary Doten and Paul Wiggin managed to escape into the finals without dropping a set.

The other semi-final match was even more of a contest, with Katie Queenan and Bob Schultz pulling out a third-set tiebreaker over Gilliam Climo and Clay Leonard.

In the main draw finals, Mary and Paul held on in the first set to win 6-4. Momentum shifted to Katie in Bob immediately in the second and they won 6-2. With the lights set to go off, a third-set tiebreaker was played. Katie and Bob were receiving with a match point opportunity at 5-6, but lost the next three points.

Not only is Mary heading east to Rochester, NY with 4 national titles, but she's now officially been designated a Sherpa, for carrying her partner through to his first tournament win.

In the consolation final, Patty Doolas and Doug Brown defeated Pam and John Pierce.

Social Paddle Returns to Hinsdale

On many weekends recently, HPTA members have been holding social evenings at KLM to introduce friends to paddle. There may be nothing more fun! An outdoor evening of recreational play certainly can beat the routines of working and taxi-duty for the kids!

So, don't miss
- Hinsdale Mixed Tournament on March 7 and the Olde Time Paddle Social on March 14.
