Playing In the Red Zone
Friday night's gentlemen's draw included seven teams (with three women among them). Congrats to Randy Canent and Bob Schultz, who prevailed in a three-set final over Ed Dunphy and Paul Lozanowski.
Saturday morning's championship draw was completely full with eight teams playing. Mary Doten and Scott Meyer triumphed over Bob Schultz and Marc Veverka in the finals in straight sets.
These events raised $1,000 for Common Hope -- enough to sponsor a child in Guatemala for a year.

Snapshots from the Kids Paddle Camp
What a great bunch of kids. No doubt at least a few of the children pictured below will include the KLM paddle facility when they are thinking about the reasons for a Thanksgiving holiday.

A Very Fine Reason to Visit New Canaan, CT
Some fanatics may dream of visiting all 30 major league baseball stadiums. Devotees of paddle may dream of playing on every hospitable court between Nova Scotia and the Golden Gate. Now, here's a chance to add one more town to your belt. In return for a similar favor done last season, Steve Caccam graciously has extended an invitation to his extended paddle family in Hinsdale, IL to come play paddle in New Canaan, Connecticutt. Steve says:
"For any of the regulars of the Hinsdale paddle scene, we would welcome anyone that is traveling to the New York/Connecticut area, for business or for pleasure, and wants to sneak in a weeknight or weekend game, please give me a call or send me an E-mail.
Our men's league has really grown this year. We're up to 85+ teams (170+ guys!) playing in five different Flights: A's, high B's, low B's, C's, and Novices. Something for everyone!
As I think I mentioned to you when we played out at your new facility last year, the Town of New Canaan is very similar to Hinsdale in many ways. Like Hinsdale, New Canaan is for the most part a bedroom community of a major city, just under an hour's train ride from Grand Central in New York. (New Canaan is about a 15-20 minute drive from downtown Stamford, CT.; 10 minutes from Darien, CT). The population of New Canaan is around 18,000, just about the size of Hinsdale I think. Our four new Reilly courts were christened in the fall of 2004 just weeks after yours. And they're located in the middle of a 300+ acre park similar to
Katherine Legge Memorial Park. Like KLM, our Waveny Park was once the summer residence of a wealthy industrialist, and today is the heart of passive and active outdoor recreation for the town of New Canaan.
Please feel free to pass along my E-mail address or telephone number to anyone looking for a game out this way. Best regards,
-Steve Caccam
